Welcoming a new baby into your life is an exciting journey filled with joy, love, and a bit of chaos! As you prepare for this new chapter, one of the most important tasks is selecting the right baby gear. With so many options available, it can feel overwhelming. Parents have told me that they have spent hours upon hours researching products...to then regret them. So here are the 5 key questions to consider before making those purchases to prevent that regret.

5 Key Questions

Before diving into specific products, take a moment to consider the following questions:

  • What is your lifestyle and routine? Once you are aware of what your lifestyle and routine is, then make a list of key features each item will need to possess. For example, if you travel frequently, lightweight and portable gear may be essential.

  • What space do you have? If your home is on the smaller side, compact items may be more suitable. This is where considering products that have double purposes (e.g. changing table and drawers set), or space saving products (e.g. foldable baby bath), can really come into their own.

  • What is your budget? Baby gear can vary widely in price. Knowing your budget will help narrow down your options from the get-go, and reduce the overwhelm before even looking at a single item.

  • Will you use it at least once a week? There are so many 'must-have' products available. If you are unsure whether you will use it at least once a week, hold off buying it. So many items that collect dust, were once bought as a 'must have'. As long as you have the essentials, the rest can wait. Worst case scenario? Next day delivery can help you out in a push.

  • What are you getting with this item? Check exactly what is included. Nobody likes hidden costs, such as no rain cover for the pushchair or expensive liner refills for a nappy bin (the list goes on). If you are clear from the beginning on any additional / recurring costs, you can assess whether this item is actually worth it.

By knowing the answers to these 5 questions, you can choose baby gear that fits seamlessly into your daily routine, and be less likely to regret.
